The Terms of the Tome

Terms of Service

The Tome is a place built for writers. These terms exist to keep it that way — to protect your work, your fellow authors, and the integrity of the craft itself.

Acceptance

By creating an account or using Insanitomeium, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application. These terms apply to all users of any instance of Insanitomeium, regardless of who operates the server.

What the Tome Provides

Insanitomeium is a hosted writing application — a Tome in the truest sense. It offers a project organizer, a rich text editor, character and research notes, and document export. Think of it as Scrivener for the browser, free to every author who opens it.

We operate and maintain the service. We are responsible for its availability, backups, and upkeep. You are here to write.

Your Account

Accounts are created through Google or GitHub OAuth. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to violation of these terms.

Your Content

You retain full ownership of everything you write inside the Tome — every project, every note, every fragment. That will not change.

By using the application you grant the server operator the limited right to store and display your content solely for the purpose of operating the service on your behalf. Nothing more.

You agree not to store or transmit content that is unlawful, harassing, or that infringes the intellectual property rights of others. The Tome welcomes the dark, the strange, and the complex — it has no patience for the harmful.

Data & Backups

We are responsible for maintaining backups of the Tome and its contents. We take that responsibility seriously — your words matter.

That said, we also provide a compile and export feature so your work is never dependent on any single place. We encourage you to use it. A story that exists in more than one form is a story that cannot be lost.

Acceptable Use

The Tome is a place of craft. You agree not to:

  • Attempt to access another user's projects or data
  • Probe, scan, or test the application for vulnerabilities without explicit written permission from the server operator
  • Use the application to generate or store content that facilitates illegal activity
  • Attempt to interfere with or degrade the availability of the service for others

Third-Party Services

Sign-in is handled through Google and GitHub OAuth. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies. Insanitomeium has no control over those platforms and takes no responsibility for them.

Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

Insanitomeium is provided as open software, offered in good faith to the writing community. It comes without warranty of any kind — express or implied. The authors do not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suited to any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the authors of Insanitomeium shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the application, including loss of data or content.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated at any time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the application after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
