What Lives Inside the Tome

Every Tool a Serious Author Needs

Manuscript Organization

Structure your novel, screenplay, or epic the way your mind works: chapters, scenes, fragments, all held within the Tome.

Write Anywhere

The Tome lives in your browser. No installation, no syncing drama, only the blank page waiting for what only you can write.

Your Work, Only Yours

Private by design. Nothing you write in the Tome is shared without your hand moving first. This is your studio, not a stage.

Free. Permanently.

The Tome asks only one thing of you: write. No trial periods, no premium tiers, no moment where the door closes unless you pay.

The Corkboard

Step back from the words and see the shape of your story. Pin your scenes, move them around, find the structure hiding inside the chaos.

Compile and Export

When the draft is done, the Tome gets out of your way. Export to PDF, DOCX, or ePub in one step, ready for wherever the manuscript needs to go next.

About Insanitomeium

About the Tome

Every writer has a story. Original, catchy, maybe a little strange. Stories like that beg to be let out, and the tools you use should make that easier, not harder.

I'm a busy guy. I don't always have access to the same device when a free minute opens up. I loved Scrivener's features, but syncing between devices was a nightmare, and I work in tech. Google Docs was easy to access, but thirty chapters in one file brought the browser to its knees, and splitting them into thirty separate files was an organizational catastrophe.

That's when I decided I needed my own tool. Something online, with the features that actually mattered, that just worked wherever I happened to be sitting.

Think of the Tome as your online writing studio: a free Scrivener alternative that lives in your browser, organizing your manuscripts, chapters, and ideas without installations, without syncing headaches, and without a paywall appearing at the worst possible moment.

I know I'm not alone in this. So welcome to Insanitomeium, a place to write whenever you want, wherever you want. This isn't a social network. There's no one to impress, no one to criticize. Just you and your thoughts, your plans, your wishes, and your dreams.

The Tome is open.
Commit your madness to the page.

feature

Deleted something? You can take it back now

Deleting from the binder is no longer permanent. Delete a document and a message appears at the bottom of the screen with an Undo button — one click and everything is exactly as it was. Miss it, and the document is not gone either: a new Trash section at the foot of the binder holds everything you have deleted for 30 days, and one button puts it back. Delete a folder and its whole contents come back with it, in the right places.

improvement

Widen the binder to see your full titles

The binder is no longer a fixed width. Drag its right-hand edge and it grows with you, up to twice its old size — so "Chapter Eleven — The Long Road Home, Part Two" reads as itself instead of trailing off into a row of dots. Your chosen width is remembered on that device, and hiding and re-showing the binder brings it back exactly as you left it.

improvement

A real writing toolbar on your phone

Writing on a phone just got a proper toolbar. A single row of controls now sits directly above the on-screen keyboard, with bold, italic, underline, lists, quotes, undo and redo always within thumb reach — and a dedicated line-break button, which is the one thing a phone keyboard simply cannot do on its own. Tap Aa at the left for everything else: headings, alignment, tables, scene breaks, checklists and more, grouped and labelled.
